Artist statement
My main goal in all of my work is to provoke a response. Whether you feel calm, indifferent, or angry, I strive to challenge the way we feel art. I feel too often the entire story of a photograph is told too soon, either by its name, or by its scene and structure. When I set out to create a new piece, I seek to confront the viewer with their thoughts. If they do not understand what they are looking at, or why, and only know they "like" it... I have succeeded. I am often drawn to movement, as I feel it provides a sense of "being"... you were there to see that taxi drive by, to feel the wind on your face as it whooshed by. As my taste evolves, I am drawn more and more to create abstract work that requires you to stop and sit. Each form of art I work in informs the other, so I can bring a unique eye to my work; painting inspires the colors and shapes I pull for in my photography.
