VSCO'S THE FIFTY • RHODE ISLAND
One photographer chosen from each state. State of the Union was selected to represent Rhode Island.
In 2025, my husband and I were in Provincetown, MA, celebrating Pride weekend. On our last day, we were doing our daily walk down Commercial Street, and ventured a bit further down than we usually go, and stopped at a wonderful brunch spot. I had my camera with me, and on our walk back to the car, we passed this house, which I immediately stopped to photograph. Something about the torn and faded look of the flag, and the way it blocked the doorway to the home felt more like a barrier than a welcome, which was a weird feeling in a town that is otherwise known for it's welcomeness.
